課程概述

It is generally possible to see Southeast Asian culture as a diverse historical complex of local pre-historical cultures, Indian-influenced cultures, Chinese-influenced cultures, Islamic-influenced cultures, and European-influenced cultures. Geological separation between insular and mainland Southeast Asia further complicates the situation. This course will trace the development of each culture in Southeast Asian through an archaeological examination of its material culture.

First Semester: Introduction (1); Overview of each cultural tradition (5); The age of European influence (3); The age of Islamic influence (3); The age of Chinese influence (1); Special lecture on the pre-modern ceramic trade and Taiwan (1), Special lecture of sunken ships and underwater archaeology (1), Special lecture of Southeast Asian castles and towns (1); Summary (1); Examination (1).

Second Semester: The age of Indian influence (7); The age of local pre-historic cultures (6); Special lecture on trade in Islamic ceramics (1); Special lecture on Southeast Asian pagodas (1); Special lecture on the distribution of the megalith culture (1); Summary (1); Examination (1).
